Celebrating International Women's Day at INSEAD & Shell booth

Honoring the week long International Women’s Day celebration at UNIFEM Singapore, we took the opportunity to introduce UNIFEM's presence in Singapore and also to specifically raise awareness about UNIFEM’s 2008 “Say NO to Violence Against Women” (SNVAW) campaign  to fellow guests at the booths – INSEAD (March 6), and Shell: Network of Women (March 14).

Regrettably, violence against women & girls has seen tremendous tribulations even in this modern 21st century. The social & health consequences of such violence are staggering. According to research done by UNIFEM, partner violence in the US alone exceeds US$5.8 billion a year. Substantially, family and community structures tend to deteriorate while weakening its nation’s economic development. Less developed countries such as those in Asia tend to have a significant backlash than our counterparts in the Western countries.

Identifying these concerns, the SNVAW campaign signals UNIFEM’s vigorous efforts to advocate for change.

We were greatly pleased to receive encouraging comments about their interest in aiding UNIFEM’s efforts to stop violence against women by adding their name to the SNVAW campaign.

Shell: Network of Women – March 14

To end our booth awareness series, UNIFEM Singapore was delighted to join Shell Eastern Petroleum & other organizations to raise critical issues that women are facing today. Again, we received tremendous support to the SNVAW campaign and introduced our events & activities to fellow enthusiasts. It was a good event to network with other organizations & individuals that allowed us to exchange ideas in campaigning for the elimination of violence against women.
