National Committee for UNIFEM, Singapore, The Substation Moving Images and The Spanish Embassy jointly present a Gala Film Screening of Iciar Bollain’s award Spanish wining film Te Doy Mis Ojos (Take My Eyes) on Friday 24th November at GV Vivo City. The film will be shown in Singapore for the first time.
Winning 36 awards and nominated 16 times the acclaimed film by one of Spain’s most promising woman director Ms Iciar Bollain is a powerful film about reclaiming one’s dignity and finding the hero within ourselves to change our lives.
Beautifully shot in Toledo, Spain the film is about courage and triumph of an abused woman Pilar, acted by award winning Laia Marull, who escapes from her husband’s regular outbursts of violent rage. One winter’s night Pilar flees from her house with nothing but a couple of belongings and her son Juan. Realising that Pilar had left him for good, Antonio acted by Luis Tosar, goes on a hunt for them. As far as he is concerned, Pilar is his life and had "given him his eyes." Contrary to how she hoped a marriage would be, it becomes clear that home means hell, love means pain and the person who promised protection is actually the cause of terror. The film explores cultural and societal influences that shapes a man’s believe. Te Doy Mis Ojos is a strong film tackling the issue of domestic violence yet removing the ‘victims’ and dark endings.
Tickets are sold at $200 and $100 and the film will commence after a cocktail reception and Spanish entertainment. Funds raised will be equally divided between UNIFEM Singapore and The Substation Moving Images. For purchase of ticket please contact Fazlin or Niky at 62386761
