21 March - 3 April | Weekdays 2pm -10pm, Weekends 12pm to 6pm | Free Entry | Photographic Society of Singapore, 30 Selegie Road, Selegie Arts Centre (Above Mr Bean's Cafe) This photo exhibition explores the harsh reality of a forgotten, marginalized segment of Asian society today – the widows of India. Widows were once considered inauspicious, an excuse often used by poor families to abandon them. These deserted women seek solace in religion, traveling thousands of miles to congregate in the holiest cities in India. As the country modernizes, such ancient beliefs are fading away. Still, survival remains a daily struggle for these women. “A Widow’s Karma” is a showcase of photographs and text detailing the lives of the widows who continue to live in poverty and neglect. UNIFEM Singapore is proud to a supporter of this exhibition. ------ ONGOING ACTIVITIES ------

UNIFEM Singapore started the school talk programme in the fourth quarter of last year to
actively promote awareness about issues regarding women and children. The topics raised are about trafficking and maid/domestic violence. We believe that it is very important to educate the young about these issues and that by doing so, they will be able to play a larger role in helping to solve this problem. Please email theeba@unifemsingapore.org.sg or call us at 6238 6763 if your school or company is interested in organising a UNIFEM talk. ------ VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES ------
