The National Committee for UNIFEM, Singapore works towards Women’s Empowerment and Gender Equality. Our programs are designed to assist women in the region by providing access to education, health, economic independence and a life free of violence and abuse.
Recognizing that young people can effect positive changes in the society; National Committee for UNIFEM, Singapore Youth Team, a corollary of the National Committee for UNIFEM Singapore, is formed.
Seeking to unite and empower members between 15 to 25 years of age, the Youth Team hopes to be a platform for encouraging young people to voice their opinions and ideas and to help further UNIFEM’s agenda in the region. We aim to do this via awareness campaigns, research, theme-based workshops and fund-raising projects in partnership with various institutions across Singapore.
We believe that the youth in our country have a major role to play in mobilizing change across the region. This platform we hope can be a step in that direction.
If you're 25 and below, motivated, creative and want to make a difference in the lives of others, come join our youth team.

School Talk Programme
UNIFEM Singapore started the school talk programme in the fourth quarter of last year to
actively promote awareness about issues regarding women and children. The topics raised
are about trafficking and maid/domestic violence. We believe that it is very important
to educate the young about these issues and that by doing so, they will be able to play
a larger role in helping to solve this problem.
Please email Theeba at contact@unifemsingapore.org.sg or call 6238 6763 if you would like us to speak at your school.

Rice Drive Project

The
In the words of Rice Drive Leader, Flora Chan: "A cup of rice – seemingly insignificant and present in almost every household – can make a significant difference in the lives of others. And as each cup of rice is poured into the sack, as the grains are pooled together, the organisers hope that students will be able to understand, and see with their very own eyes, that their combined participation as a community can achieve a greater desired outcome. All students need is some initiative, and some heart, to bring a small and simple gift for those who need it the most."
The pilot run of the rice drive is being conducted at Raffles Girls School (RGS) from Jan 28th to Feb 1st, 2008. If your school or organisation is interested in conducting the rice drive, please email thericedrive@gmail.com. For more information on the rice drive, visit www.thericedrive.blogspot.com.
